The Triennial Election to the Seven (7) Members of the  Managing Committee of the Ernakulam Branch of SIRC of ICAI for the period 2019-2022  will be held at the Special General Meeting to be held on Saturday, 2nd February 2019 between 8.00 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. at the ICAI Bhawan at Diwan’s Road, Kochi – 682 016.

In this connection, it is mentioned that the voter in order to cast his/her vote shall place on his/her ballot paper the number 1 (in Arabic numeral only) in the square opposite the name of the candidate for whom you desire to vote. You may in addition, place on the ballot paper the number 2, 3,4 and so on (in Arabic numeral only), in the square opposite the name of other candidates in order of your preference up to the maximum number of preferences ie., (Total Number of Candidates).  You may, however, put a cross i.e., ‘X’ mark in the square(s) opposite the name(s) of candidate(s) to whom you do not desire to vote.

The doubt seems to have arisen as different people have different way of writing the numeral “1” e.g. 1 or I or 1 . Queries are being received from members as to the manner in which the numeral “1” is required to be written while marking preference in the ballot papers.

It is clarified that all the above styles of writing “1” are different fonts or different ways of writing the same Arabic numeral “1” and are valid for the purpose of our election process including treating as valid ballot paper. If the numbers are written in Roman Numbers such as I, II, III, IV and so on or in words such as One, Two, Three, Four and so on or First, Second, Third, Fourth and so on, then only the ballot paper will be treated as invalid. Further, it may be noted that any manner of marking numbers, other than Arabic numerals, will render the ballot paper invalid.

Members are requested to carry the  Identity Card that bears the Name, Membership Number of the member along with his Photograph and Signature. If a member is not having  identity card  he /she may also bring the PAN Card or Voter’s Identity Card issued by the Income Tax Department or Election Commission of India respectively.

Members are requested to take note of the above matters for the smooth conduct of the election process.
